PE and Sports Premium
PE at Wickhambrook:
At Wickhambrook Primary we believe that all children should be given the opportunity to develop in their sporting skills. We work in partnership with many organisations including A & M Multisports and Dance Academy, Bury Spectrum Gymnastics Club, Prestige Sports and Bury Hockey Club.
We offer many clubs both before, during and after the school day. Indoor athletics club, golf club and dodgeball club are all before school clubs run by Prestige Sports. Cross Country is another of our latest offerings and our cross-country team competed in a local area competition and from this 2 of our Yr6 girls qualified for a county trial. Wickhambrook school take an active role in a range of sporting competitions, the children take pride in being chosen to represent their school and they love the opportunity of putting their skills into match practice against other children from other schools in the area, always doing our very best and learning from the experience.
Many sports are catered for at Wickhambrook, ranging from Tag Rugby, to dance; gymnastics to hockey.
Year 6 also have the opportunity to attend 'Deep Water' swimming lessons at a local leisure center. Upon leaving Wickhambrook in 2018 100% of children in year 6 could swim 25m in at least one stroke of either breast stroke, front crawl or back stroke. 27% of children also achieved their lifesaving/self save certificate.
The Sports Premium was introduced in April 2013 and is a sum of money allocated to schools to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision.
The grant will be used on:
- Employing specialist PE coaches to work alongside teachers in lessons to increase their subject knowledge and confidence in PE
- Paying external sports coaches to run competitions, or to increase pupils’ participation in national school games competitions
- Providing extra, additional equipment to ensure that the PE curriculum can be taught effectively
