At Wickhambrook Primary Academy, we believe that learning doesn’t just happen within the classroom walls — the outdoors is a powerful extension of our learning environment. We are proud to offer a wide range of opportunities that help children connect with nature, develop confidence, and discover new skills in inspiring settings.
🌳 Our Outdoor Spaces
- Nature Area – A dedicated space where children explore wildlife, plants, and the changing seasons.
- Bird Watching Area – Encouraging curiosity and patience as pupils observe and record the birds that visit our grounds.
- Chill Zone (Vision for the Future) – Plans are underway to create a more grown-up, calm space for older children to relax and reflect outdoors.
- HUGE field! We are so lucky at Wickhambrook to have a very large field for outdoor play, equipped with climbing frames, exercise equipment and tree swings!
Forest School
Our Forest School sessions are a highlight of outdoor learning. Children gather around the campfire, learn to use hand-held tools safely, and build dens together. These experiences foster teamwork, resilience, and independence.
Safe Risk-Taking
We value the importance of children learning to take risks in a safe and supported way. Activities such as tree climbing help pupils build confidence, problem-solving skills, and physical strength while understanding boundaries and safety.
Science Outdoors
Where possible, our science lessons take place outside. Pupils investigate rocks, soil, trees, and other natural phenomena in real-world contexts, making learning hands-on, memorable, and engaging.
Outdoor learning at Wickhambrook Primary Academy is about more than fresh air — it’s about nurturing curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of the natural world.
