Otters are a Year 3 Class taught by Miss Sophie Jolland
We are otterly outstanding!
Welcome to Otters class.
We believe that year 3 is one of the most important years in your child's primary career. In this year, we see the children bloom, leaving behind their Key Stage 1 persona and starting the journey towards becoming the mature, responsible and independent learners who will get the most out of their Key Stage 2 experience. We know that we learn from our mistakes in year 3, and encourage children to have a growth mindset in order to overcome challenges.
Throughout the year we have many interesting topics including: the Stone Age, the Romans and Caring for the environment. Our topic lessons will cover Art, History, Geography, Design Technology, Computing and Science.
A usual day in Otters class includes English, Maths, Spellings, Maths Meeting and Topic work. We are currently learning our times tables through Timestable Rockstars. The children have P.E twice a week and French is taught by a French specialist once a week every half term.
Your child will bring home their weekly spelling rule every Monday, to be learnt to use in sentences on a Friday. In year 3 it is important that the children read every night and every time they read the children’s rocket will get one step closer to reaching the Sun (having read 100 times at home)! To build on our independence in year 3 when the children have finished their book they need to change their own reading book. Presently, we also have a Reading Bingo card to develop the children’s enthusiasm of reading, by reading different types of genre, in different settings, to different people and writing about what they have read.
